Tarot FAQs
Over the years of reading tarot for people, I’ve heard a range of questions and queries about tarot reading and what it involves. Below I’ve put together some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) that might help you with some answers to those questions you might have before consulting the cards for a reading.
What is a tarot reading and how does it work?
Tarot is a tool for self-reflection and insight. The cards act as a mirror, helping you look closer at your current situation and gain a new perspective on challenges and opportunities. I interpret the card symbolism and stories to help you navigate your life with greater confidence, clarity, and purpose.
I’ve never had a tarot reading before – what can I expect?
A tarot reading offers insight, reflection, and guidance on your current situation or a question you might have. It’s a relaxed, friendly experience — not about predicting the future, but helping you explore possibilities and choices with help from the cards. No prior knowledge or experience needed, just an open mind.
Is tarot fortune-telling?
Tarot is not about predicting a fixed future or telling you what will happen. It is a guide to potential outcomes based on your current path. The true power of a reading lies in your free will; it empowers you to make conscious choices and create your own future. Leaving things to chance or fate leaves you feeling like you have no control when in fact, you do.
Are you going to tell me I’m going to die/win the lottery?
I won’t tell you you’re going to die or win the lottery. If I could tell people they were going to win the lottery, I’d probably be retired on a beach somewhere surrounded by dogs! The truth is, tarot is not about predicting a definite future or fixed outcomes. It’s a tool for self-discovery, helping you explore possibilities and make more conscious choices.
What can I ask about?
The best questions are open-ended and focus on your own life, for example:
- “What do I need to know about my relationship/career/life right now?”
- “What does the next month/3 months/6 months look like?”
- “What do I need to do to take care of myself right now?”
- “How can I better understand my relationship with [person]/myself?”
- “What can I do to overcome this creative block/imposter syndrome/burnout?”
- “What lesson am I currently learning?”
Questions that ask for specific outcomes (e.g. “Will I marry X?”, “Will I win the lottery?” or “Should I take this job?”) or that ask about other people without their consent are not recommended.
Is a tarot reading scary or bad?
No, tarot isn’t meant to be a scary experience. While some cards, like “Death” or “The Devil,” can look daunting, they are rarely meant to be taken literally. The “Death” card, for example, often symbolizes an ending or transformation, making way for a new beginning. My goal is to create a safe and supportive space, and to deliver every message with compassion and respect.
Do I have to believe in tarot for it to work?
No, you don’t need to believe in anything magical or mystical. The only ask is to have an open mind. Tarot is an amazing tool for self-reflection, and even the most skeptical people can gain valuable insights from a reading.
Can I get a reading for someone else?
It ‘s not my practice to read about the lives of other people without their consent, as this can be a violation of their privacy. I can, however, provide a reading on your relationship with that person or how their energy might be affecting you. The focus of these readings about others will focus solely on you and your energy.
How often should I have a reading?
This is entirely up to you. Some people like to have one every few months or whenever they’re at a crossroads and need some guidance. It’s a good idea to allow time to process a reading before getting another one on the same topic.
